Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy

This policy aims to provide transparency and guidance to authors, reviewers, and editors regarding the use of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies (hereafter "AI Tools"). The Jurnal Manajemen Agribisnis dan Agroindustri will continue to monitor developments in this field and will adjust this policy as necessary.

Use of AI Tools in Manuscript Preparation

The Jurnal Manajemen Agribisnis dan Agroindustri recognizes the potential of AI Tools to support and improve the quality of manuscripts. Authors are permitted to use AI Tools to assist in preparing their manuscripts, for tasks such as improving language, summarizing literature, or organizing content.

However, the use of AI Tools must not replace human critical thinking, expertise, and evaluation. AI Tools must always be used with the author's full oversight and control.

Authors' Primary Responsibilities

Authors are fully responsible and accountable for the entire content of their manuscript. This responsibility includes:

  • Verification of Accuracy: Carefully reviewing and verifying all output generated by AI, including checking sources and citations, as AI-generated references may be incorrect or fabricated.
  • Original Contribution: Thoroughly editing and adapting all material to ensure the manuscript represents the author's authentic and original contribution, reflecting their own analysis, interpretation, and ideas.
  • Transparency (Disclosure): Transparently declaring the use of AI Tools in the manuscript during the submission process.
  • Data Security: Ensuring that the use of any AI Tool does not violate data privacy, intellectual property, or other rights by checking the terms and conditions of each AI Tool used.

Authorship

An AI Tool cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans, including accountability for the accuracy and integrity of the work and the ability to approve the final version of the manuscript.

Disclosure Statement

Authors must disclose their use of AI Tools in manuscript preparation in a separate declaration statement at the end of the manuscript (before the reference list). This declaration should include:

  • The name of the AI Tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly).
  • The purpose of its use (e.g., for language improvement, initial draft structuring).
  • A brief description of how the author supervised and verified the output.

Use of AI in Figures, Images, and Artwork

The Jurnal Manajemen Agribisnis dan Agroindustri does not permit the use of AI Tools to create or alter images or figures in a submitted manuscript. This includes enhancing, obscuring, moving, or removing a specific feature within an image.

Confidentiality is Key

A manuscript received for review is a confidential document. Reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading a manuscript or any part of it into an AI Tool. This action violates author confidentiality, proprietary rights, and data privacy.

Integrity of the Review Process

Peer review requires critical thinking and original assessment that can only be performed by humans. AI Tools should not be used to assist in the scientific review of a manuscript, as they risk generating incorrect, incomplete, or biased conclusions. The reviewer is fully responsible and accountable for the content of their review report.

Maintaining Confidentiality

Similar to reviewers, editors are strictly prohibited from uploading a submitted manuscript or any part of it into an AI Tool. This principle of confidentiality also extends to all communications regarding the manuscript, including decision letters.

Integrity of the Editorial Process

The management of a manuscript's evaluation requires responsibilities that can only be fulfilled by humans. AI Tools should not be used to assist in the evaluation or decision-making process for a manuscript. Editors are fully responsible for the editorial process, the final decision, and its communication to the authors. If an editor suspects a violation of this AI policy by an author or reviewer, they must inform the editorial board immediately.
